Workington In Bloom

Schools

Victoria Junior School

Victoria Junior School is situated in the town centre surrounded by a large residential area. However, they've made the most of their open spaces to create a productive and beautiful school garden.

Each class has their own garden space and they are responsible for its maintenance and care. Pupils work with local gardener and business owner, Helen Shipton-Smith (Helen's Herbs), to hone their skills.

They are also encouraged to grow edible plants, vegetables and herbs. The school will then organise cookery classes to show the pupils how home-grown produce can be used.

The school has ambitions to develop the garden in the future and has recently applied for a 'Workington in Bloom' grant to help fund the improvements.

Ashfield Infant and Nursery School

Ashfield Infant and Nursery School. The school has a strong commitment to outdoor education and has its own Forest School as well as a garden. Both the Forest School and garden are coordinated by Mrs Charlwood.
