Free Family Fun Day in Vulcan Park
The last family fun day of the summer is on Saturday 27 August, 1- 4pm, in Vulcan Park. We have plenty to keep the little ones entertained including craft activities, sports, a climbing wall, storytelling and circus skills - and it's all free of charge! No booking is required but admission is on a first come, first served basis.

Afternoon tea at the Helena Thompson Museum
Join us for afternoon tea at the Helena Thompson Museum on Saturday 24 September at 2.30pm. Tickets are £12.50 and proceeds go to the Mayor of Workington's chosen charity, Myeloma UK. Flag Flies for Armed Forces Day
The Union flag was raised in front of the Town Hall on Oxford Street today, as Workington prepares for Armed Forces Day on Saturday 25 June. Town Council staff raised the flag to coincide with a formal flag raising ceremony at Allerdale House. Saturday's events kick off with a parade to the Cenotaph at 10.45. Joan is New Mayor
Cllr Joan Wright was elected Mayor of Workington at the Town Council's Annual Meeting and Mayor Making at the Carnegie Theatre on Wednesday night. The Moorclose Ward councillor donned the red gown as the Town's 111th Mayor, and will be assisted in the role by Ms Denise Roper. The Deputy Mayor will also be a Moorclose Ward Councillor - Ann Bales. Outgoing Mayor Cllr Carole Armstrong paid tribute to Cllr Wright's record as an active member of the council and wished her luck for her term of office.

Mayor Making 2016
Workington Town Council elects a new chairman every year at its Mayor Making ceremony, which is effectively the annual general meeting of the council. It's an opportunity to meet the new Mayor of Workington and the new Town Councillors. Following the meeting, the new Town Mayor will be ‘At Home’ and will meet the Townspeople generally. Refreshments will be provided. The ceremony takes place on Wednesday 11 May, 7.30pm, at the Carnegie Theatre and Arts Centre on Finkle Street. Fundraising Bike Ride
A charity bike ride from Workington to Rowrah has been organised to raise money for the Great North Air Ambulance. The bike ride starts at 10am on Saturday 7 May and has been organised by former Mayor and Town Councillor, Konrad Hansen. Anyone can take part in the bike ride and they are welcome to do the full route or to just join in for a section. Queen's Birthday Celebration in Vulcan Park
Her Majesty The Queen celebrates her 90th birthday on Thursday 21 April 2016. To celebrate this historic occasion the beacon in Vulcan Park, Workington will be lit at 8.15pm accompanied by music from the Workington Town Band.
The event has been organised by Workington Town Council as part of wider celebrations that will see beacons being lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories.
