Mayor Making Ceremony
Every year, Workington Town Council holds a Mayor Making Ceremony.
During the ceremony a new Mayor is nominated and elected, along with a new Deputy Mayor who will serve in office for the forthcoming year.
The outgoing Mayor makes a speech and announces their fundraising totals for their chosen charities. The new Mayor then speaks about their hopes and plans for their term in office and nominates their chosen charities.
The ceremony usually takes place at a venue within the town, where members of the public are welcome to attend, but due to the Coronavirus pandemic, a video of the ceremony will be recorded and broadcast on the council's Facebook and YouTube channel. All filming will be conducted in accordance with government guidelines.
Feel free to tune in and watch! The ceremony usually lasts around 30-45minutes.
