Annual Meeting

Every year Workington Town Council holds its Annual Meeting.  During this meeting, which all members of the council are invited to, the Mayor reads an annual report covering the business of the council from the previous year. This can include events that have taken place, projects completed, as well as a reflection on challenges faced and hope for the year ahead.

During the annual meeting, Councillors nominate and elect the Mayor and Deputy Mayor, along with the committee members and chairs of committees for the forthcoming year.

The schedule of meetings for the new year are also confirmed.

Members of the public are welcome to attend this meeting.

The Annual Meeting of the Council took place on Wednesday 26 May 2021 at 7pm

Mayor Making Ceremony

Every year, Workington Town Council holds a Mayor Making Ceremony.

During the ceremony a new Mayor is nominated and elected, along with a new Deputy Mayor who will serve in office for the forthcoming year.

The outgoing Mayor makes a speech and announces their fundraising totals for their chosen charities.  The new Mayor then speaks about their hopes and plans for their term in office and nominates their chosen charities.

The ceremony will take place in Moorclose Theatre, Moorclose Community Centre, with restricted numbers and social distancing guidelines in place. The ceremony will be filmed and will be updated to our YouTube channel for everyone to watch.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions the meet and greet with the new Mayor and Councillors, that usually takes place following the ceremony, will not take place.

The annual Mayor Making ceremony took place on Wednesday 2nd June 2021 at 7pm.
