Workington In Bloom

Wild Flowers

About

Workington in Bloom aims to make Workington greener and more environmentally-friendly by coordinating the planting of floral displays and organising street clean-ups, as well as supporting dozens of local community initiatives.

Dewy Flowers

Projects

Workington in Bloom organises and assists in a variety of projects throughout the Town, which has included crocus planting, creating a wildflower meadow, and securing funding for a woodland makeover.

Wild Flowers

Schools

Workington In Bloom loves working with children; there's something about getting out in the fresh air, learning new things and helping the environment and wildlife that is so fulfilling.

We work with local schools to get them involved in events and projects.  If you would be interested in getting your school involved, we would love to hear from you.

Planting Flowers

Workington Nature Partnership

The Workington Nature Partnership aims to deliver effective management of Workington’s natural areas in partnership with local communities and user groups which will continually improve and enhance nature reserves, landscape character and wildlife habitats.

Workington Nature Partnership is a joint initiative between Allerdale Borough Council and Workington Town Council.

Wild Flowers

Grants and Funding

Workington in Bloom supports the aims of the town’s entry into the annual Cumbria in Bloom. Small groups, organisations and communities can apply for a grant of up to £300 to assist with a Cumbria in Bloom application

Purple and Pink Hanging Flowers

Competitions

We run a Fruit & Veg competition every year which includes a variety of different categories to enter into.

The aim of the competition is to encourage allotment holders to use their land effectively. It also encourages them to 'grow their own' which can then be used for healthy and wholesome meals at home.

This is a community event which brings everyone together for our annual show, where all entries will be judged, plus, a little competition never hurt anyone!

Volunteers

We are always looking for volunteers to help us with a variety of projects and we can tailor the experience to your interests.

We also have a Vulcan Park volunteer group who usually meet on a Sunday and carry out tasks such as planting bulbs and flowers, clearing weeds, and generally tidying up.

Get in touch if you would like to get involved!

Meetings

The Workington in Bloom meetings are made up of like-minded organisations and volunteers who want to make Workington a brighter and more environmentally place to be.

New members are welcome to attend with no experience necessary. At the meetings we identify potential ‘grot spots’ and unloved sites that need work, plan the floral displays, and discuss potential sources of funding.
