Park End Shelter
Bringing a historic building back to life – for the community.
Workington Town Council has proudly restored this historically significant building and transformed it into a welcoming space that supports residents of all ages.
The building will be available free of charge to non-profit and voluntary organisations. The building will host workshops and events that benefit local people, focusing on health, sustainability, creativity, and wellbeing.

The building will also be available for private hire or commercial use, please contact us directly to discuss this. Priority will be given to non-profit and voluntary organisations delivering activities that align with the Council's Five Year Plan objectives.
History of the building
The building has been located in Vulcan Park since 1937 when Helena Thompson donated money for an ‘Old Man’s Shelter’ to be built - named the Park End Shelter. It was intended as a reading and meeting room where men could gather to read the newspaper.
