Park End Shelter

Bringing a historic building back to life – for the community.
 

Workington Town Council has proudly restored this historically significant building and transformed it into a welcoming space that supports residents of all ages.

 

The building will be available free of charge to non-profit and voluntary organisations. The building will host workshops and events that benefit local people, focusing on health, sustainability, creativity, and wellbeing.

​The building will also be available for private hire or commercial use, please contact us directly to discuss this. Priority will be given to non-profit and voluntary organisations delivering activities that align with the Council's Five Year Plan objectives. â€‹

History of the building

​The building has been located in Vulcan Park since 1937 when Helena Thompson donated money for an ‘Old Man’s Shelter’ to be built - named the Park End Shelter. It was intended as a reading and meeting room where men could gather to read the newspaper.
