Flag raised for Armed Forces Day
The Armed Forces Day flag has been raised at the Town Hall in Workington to mark Armed Forces Day, due to take place on Saturday 27 June 2020.
The flag was raised by the Mayor of Workington, Cllr Janet King, in a simple ceremony. Under normal circumstances, the flag-raising would be open for the public to attend, but the event was held privately to meet current social distancing guidelines. Cllr Janet King commented;
“We are disappointed that we will not be able to have our usual Armed Forces Day parade, where the whole community comes together to show their support and respect for our forces. The safety of our community has to be our priority and we hope that people will still remember this day and pay tribute in their own way at home’.
The Royal British Legion are asking people to pay their respects to the armed forces by posting pictures of themselves saluting and using the #saluteourforces tag.
