Autumn photography competition gets cash boost

Dobies Charitable Trust has given a photography competition, run by Workington Town Council, a boost by sponsoring vouchers for the winners.

The Town Council originally put some money aside for the winners, but now Dobies Charitable Trust has increased the amount by £250. The total sum of money will now be split across each age category: the over 18 winner will receive a voucher worth £150 and winners from the 13-17 and under 12 age categories will each receive a voucher worth £100 plus some art materials kindly donated by Derwent Pencils (The Cumberland Pencil Company).

Sarah Newton, Manager, Dobies Charitable Trust, commented: ‘I am delighted to support the council in encouraging the community to engage with the changing season. At this time, just a little connection with nature can really help with our
well-being.’

The competition, which runs from 21st September – 2nd November, encourages people to take photographs of ‘Autumn in Workington’. The Council recognises that this is a special time of year with the leaves turning brown and the fresh, crisp air and they welcome photographs of entrants’ own interpretation of Autumn.

The Town Council will also display winning photographs in the town centre and hope to secure enough space to showcase other photos from the winner’s portfolios.
