Council offers funding for communities to hold Big Lunch event
Workington Town Council is offering funding of up to £300 for groups in the community to host their own ‘Big Lunch’.
‘The Big Lunch’ is part of a national campaign run by The Eden Project. Their aim is to improve the happiness and wellbeing of people across the UK by helping to build more resilient and better connected communities. They encourage you to come together and celebrate your community.
A Big Lunch can be anything from a small gathering in a garden, park or driveway, to a larger party with trestle tables down the middle of your street. The official Big Lunch date is 6th – 7th June, but events don’t have to be held on these dates to be eligible for funding.
Cllr Carole Armstrong, chair of the Town Council’s Culture Committee, said, ‘we really want to encourage people to come together and join in with The Big Lunch. We feel it is a very worthwhile cause and this is why we wanted to open up a funding pot for Workington. Your activity/event needs to be open to the public and free of charge. We really hope to see a number of these fun events taking place across our Town.’
